The meteoric rise from a two-man set-up to a world brand began 50 years ago. The two engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher worked in the development department at Daimler-Benz on the 300 SE racing engine of the top-of-the-range 300 SE model (W 112) – until for various reasons the company discontinued all its motorsport activities.Aufrecht and Melcher's enthusiasm for racing remained undimmed. In their free time, they continued to develop high-performance engines at Aufrecht's house in Großaspach. In 1965 Manfred Schiek, a Daimler colleague, competed in the German touring car championship at the wheel of a 300 SE honed by Aufrecht and Melcher – notching up ten wins!This continuing success story duly spawned the Mercedes-AMG company, which to this day stands for a bold and determined commitment to keep pushing back the boundaries in the field of performance. This bold all-out quest to strive for and achieve the seemingly impossible characterises the spirit at our development location in Affalterbach up to the present day. A workforce of 1300 applies a combination of high-tech and craftsmanship here to create fascinating performance vehicles and sports cars.We are forever defining new benchmarksand setting ourselves fresh challenges.
