The bull bar, made in aluminium, has a robust, solid appearance that harmonises with the design concept of the X-Class. Not only is the bull bar robust ─ it can also protect the front end of the vehicle in the event of collisions and wildlife accidents. To this end, the external components are 3 mm thick, while the internal structural components are up to 8 mm thick; the pipe diameter is 48 mm. Airbag compatibility has been safeguarded by a series of crash tests, and the "kangaroo test" at 80 km/h with a 80 kg bag has been successfully passed. The bull bar also has connection points for hooking up antennas and a light bar. No familiar functions or equipment features are compromised either as the operative function of the emergency brake assist system (Auto Emergency Brake) and the front-mounted cameras is not compromised by the bull bar assembly, which is also compatible with vehicles equipped with PARKTRONIC (PTS sensors).
